McCain embarassed by own economic plan

John McCain's economic plan contains one boneheaded/bread and circuses for morons plank that economists think is stupid:

A gas tax holiday.

Apparently when he had economists sign a statement of support for his economic plan, he left out the section with the gas tax holiday:

This morning, the McCain campaign sent out a press release: OVER 300 ECONOMISTS SIGN STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF JOHN MCCAIN'S ECONOMIC PLAN.

The statement leaves out two big chunks of McCain's economic argument: the gas tax holiday and his promise to balance the budget by the end of his first term -- there's literally nothing in the release that mentions the deficit or national debt.

We all know that a gas tax holiday is basically a stupid gimmick hatched to win the votes of a few morons who don't understand supply and demand. It's a cheap stunt that would increase carbon emissions and hurt people in the long run. That's a non-debatable fact.

It seems that McCain knows this as well, as he omited it when submiting his plan to economists for endorsement.

He also left out the section that mentioned balancing the budget in 4 years while cutting taxes, which is lunacy.

I love when they clearly don't even believe their own lies/plans.

They should re-submit (none / 0)

Someone should submit the exact same plan, but with the balanced budget and gas tax holiday to the same economists and see what happens.

The pebbles have voted and the avalanche has begun.

Re: They should re-submit (none / 0)

that could be dangerous, we don't need economists' heads exploding during this downturn

oh my god - please look at the list (none / 0)

McStain has COMMUNITY COLLEGE INSTRUCTORS as those that have "signed on" to his plan. Someone needs to do a detailed inquiry into the qualifications of these "economists."

Teresa Tharp, from that noted economic powerhouse VALENCIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE - has a decades worth of experience as a commercial banking lender and a bachelors from Central Florida University.

Re: McCain embarassed by own economic plan (none / 0)

You know, if we don't get at least ONE of these diaries discussing McCain's make believe economic plan, I'm going to seriously wonder about the priorities of MyDD.

It's short, but recced to encourage the discussion.
